Sunday: Up {#3}

Day 192 of 365:

{Simple, Single Image on Sunday}

{Weekly Photo Challenge: Look Up}

Looking up at my downward on a Sunday morning…..  20160710_082648

(yes, a little yoga before I settle into a day of sitting at my desk writing.  I needed an extra bit of stretching and mind centering this morning as I set my sights on completeing the chapter I am currently muddling my way through.)

Happy Sunday!

Namaste,

-Janice 🙂

Day 174 of 365:

{One Word Writing Prompt: Empty}

To empty.

This is a tough word and a tougher concept, and one I often call myself to.  It always seems to reside slightly out of my reach.

During a particularly challenging mindful yoga class today, I was approached to be present of mind.  Stuck in my mode of “empty yourself, nothing else matters”,  I now found myself trying to figure out how being present and being empty relate to one another.

Eventually it occurred to me that in order to be truly “in” a moment, any moment, pulling the plug will help.  Coming to a moment, a challenge, a new situation, with a mind devoid of the clutter, noise, judgement and whatever else we carry around that might cloud or obscure our appreciation for what we experience in that moment.

This is as hard to do as it is to explain, isn’t it?  20160622_195734

I guess what I mean is: pull the plug and let what no longer serves you to evacuate down the drain so you can truly see what you need to.  If you’re done the dishes, empty the sink, right?

Except….I worry that I will miss something, lose a detail, a feeling, a thought…and I won’t be able to get it back.

Therein lies the conundrum of empty.

Namaste,

-Janice 🙂

Day 173 of 365:

{One Word Writing Prompt: Companion}

IMG_20140511_071506
Yoga time for Ellie.

Always at my feet, or under my feet.  When I sit down, she’s jumping up to sit on my lap.  When I go to bed, she’s waiting for me to hoist her up so she can snuggle into the covers too.  When I roll out my mat for a little at home yoga, she’s on it before I am, showing me what a downward dog really is.

Her name is Ellie.

She is one of three dogs that own me. (yes, you read that right – they own me.)  Ellie is the smallest of our pooches – but don’t tell her that.

She is little, she is loud.  She is always ready to give you a kiss, especially if you don’t want it….or don’t think you want it.  Ellie will change your mind.

Her favourite place is in the arms of whoever is willing to carry her around.

She’s overbearing.  She’s cute as hell.  She drives me crazy.  She’s the best afternoon nap buddy in the world.

She’s 9 pounds of pure personality and a force to be reckoned with.

And she teaches me little somethings about myself each and every day.

She’s my sidekick.  A persistent, pesky, adorable, sidekick. curved

Namaste – and Happy International Yoga Day too!

-Janice 🙂
