With The Garden In My Kitchen…

I haven’t done a food post in a while…

The onset of August means we are mid-way through our growing season (here in Ontario, anyway).  Every spring I dutifully plant a vast array of the usual summer garden herbs – everything I could possible need and use on a daily basis between June and September.  I love herbs all year long, but when they are picked fresh from your garden, they taste even better.

So today I spent some time in my kitchen, taking advantage of my bounty. Cilantro, basil and sweet mini-peppers are awesome attributes to fresh mango salsa…garlic, chives and oregano will easily compliment a sun-dried tomato dip.

Fresh, green and absolutely delicious!

Being true to form, I had a camera poised and ready to document my culinary adventure.  For this, I was in the mood to use the camera on my iPhone.  I’ve recently rediscovered Instagram, so I put it good use today.

Looks yummy – smells amazing.  Can’t wait to dig in….this will be awesome with our fish dinner.

My cherry tomatoes are just starting to ripen…I can’t wait to start enjoying them!

What about you?  What are your favourite/must have edible plants – the ones you can’t live without in your garden?

Weekly Photo Challenge: A Day In My Life

A day in the life of me?

Before seeing this challenge theme, I would have told you my days are pretty uneventful.  I work from home and don’t get out that much!  So if you merely ask me to describe my day, I would probably tell you “not much happens”.

My phone is the one thing that I carry with me from the moment I wake up in the morning, to the moment my head hits the pillow at night.  I figured this would be the best way to capture my day.

Starting with my first sleepy steps at 6:15 am, I began snapping random moments as my day progressed.  As it turns out, photographing my day paints a much more detailed picture.

Here is what happened on Tuesday, April 2nd…just a normal, average day in the life of me:

This is me, getting ready for an early morning run and workout:

After my workout, my day really begins:

This is Ripley’s favourite time of the day (Walk Time):

Finally…bed time:

(currently reading “John Dies At The End”  and loving it.  If you haven’t read this book, you need to.  If you have – don’t spoil it by telling my what happens at the end…)

So there you have it.  It may not be the most exciting photo-log of daily events…but they are my daily events….

Phoneography Challenge: My Neighbourhood

I clicked this, with my phone, from the dashboard of my car.  I am driving up the street, just getting started on my morning commute to work.  As I paused at a normally busy four-way stop, I noticed how uncommonly devoid of children my surroundings were. Usually all the kids in the neighbourhood are on their way to school as I embark on my morning drive.  On this morning, as it will be all week, things are very, very quiet.

March Break is upon us.

I imagine all the kids missing from my photograph are all still snug in their beds, enjoying their time off.

My drive through the streets to the highway is a lonely one…
