Daily Feast

Day 201 of 365:

{Writing Prompt: Feast}

My favourite time of the day is dinner time.  A time to gather, feed and nourish.  To discuss, rehash and debate the ins and outs, ups and downs, of our lives.  Family time is dinner time – a daily ritual I savour.

Saturday: When I Was Little

Day 156 of 365:

{Simple, Single Image On Saturday}

{One Word Writing Prompt: Childhood}

So, like lots of people, I had an amazing childhood.  Except mine was the best.  And this image sums it up almost perfectly:  My big sister (I am actually lucky enough to have three big sisters) and I.  We are out on the back lawn at the family cottage, entertaining each other in the simplest of ways: a cup of soap and a bubble wand.  Summer-tanned skin, hair bleached from the sun.  I imagine this picture was taken in the morning because we aren’t wearing our bathing suits.

The essence of an entire childhood indelibly held in one image.

Happy Saturday!

Sunday: Baked Goods

Day 73 of 365:

{Simple, Single Image on Sunday}

I’m being naughty in the kitchen today, making something called “Cavity Bars” for the kids.  “Cavity” because the recipe has something like seven cups of sugar in total.  Plus chocolate.  Oh, and brown sugar too.  It’s basically layers of chocolate chip cookie dough and brownies on top of each other.

I know, I know….but remember, they’re for the kids to enjoy….

Truth is, I love baking – all kinds of baking.  I love the act of baking.  All that measuring and mixing.  Filling the house with the scent of cinnamon and butter.  mmmmmm…..

When I am sad, baking makes me happy.  When I am stressed out, baking calms me down.  When I am happy, baking makes me feel happier.

I love watching people enjoy something I have made.  It gives me tremendous pleasure.

I just wish someone else would clean up the mess I make….

Happy Sunday.  I hope you are doing something that makes you feel good.

-Janice 🙂
