Day 43 of 365:

…finding inspiration on a Friday…

I’ve been feeling an odd mixture of restlessness and boredom just lately.  Or maybe it’s laziness – I can’t quite figure it out.

My novel progress has stalled because my characters have stopped talking to me for some reason.  (Yes, they are people to me.)  The plot is still there, floating around in my head…I think I have just painted myself into a corner somehow.  It’s not writer’s block.  I don’t think it is, anyway.  I just have figure out how to wake up my characters.

Speaking of which….

So there’s this great website I recently found through Pinterest, Lady Writer.

Lady Writer is, of course, a website that aims to be resource center for writers and creatives.  It is full of inspiration and writing tools that are easy to use and constantly available.

Here’s a fun idea from Lady Writer: Writer’s Worksheets.

This is 19 topics to explore and write about that revolve around different writing styles, topics, concepts and ideas designed to stir creative juices and get your brain working.  I think it’s brilliant.

You can download the worksheets, tackle them once a week, or filter through and use them when you find your self particularly stuck for inspiration or need a kick in the rear to get your words moving.

Give it a try – I am going to.  🙂

And now, for no reason what so ever….a photo of all three of my dogs people watching through my front door….

Ellie, Miley, Ripley…

Enough for now.  Go check out Lady Writer.

Oh, and if you’re wondering what other sites/articles I go to for knowledge and writing inspiration, check out (or follow!) my writing Pinterest board, ink.

Happy Friday!

-Janice 🙂

…The wonders and worlds that exist in folds and petals of flowers.  They are always there, even if it takes a macro lens for us to seem them….

Hey folks!  Another quick glimpse of a post this week – vacation season is in full swing and I am south bound with the Family right now for some roller coaster riding in Sandusky, Ohio. Woo-hoo!

I also wanted to take a moment to reflect on a moment that changed this blog in a very profound way: it was one years ago today that I was Freshly Pressed for the first time.

Though 365 days may have passed, the delicious pride and gratitude I felt then still resonates strongly with me now….

If I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Thank You….this Girl was truly humbled – and still is…

Portfolio Updating Day!

Silly me.  I keep neglecting to keep up with my photography.  I haven’t done a portfolio update in over six months!  Mind you what with all of this writing and working, my photography projects have almost fallen completely off my radar.  I mean – I have been shooting, but not nearly as much as I used too.  I think with the warmer weather, the coming months will give me some inspiration.

For those of you who have been reading my blog since the beginning (and thanks for that, by the way), you’ll be familiar with sporadic “Portfolio Updating Day” posts.  A day where I upload a few images I have been working on and share them here for you to see.  Well, today is one of those days…

For those of you who are newer to Writing The Girl (thanks for hitting “subscribe”!) – this is what I do every time I realise I should post some of my work to View Finder, my personal online portfolio I created to showcase that other side to me: Nature/Table-Top/Lifestyle/Still Life Photography.  (I also did not like to display my images on sites such as Tumblr or Flickr – I wanted more of my own creative control so View Finder is hosted on the WordPress platform)

Yes – before anything else I was an actual, honest to goodness photographer.  You will find evidence of this existence on View Finder

Now a days, I mostly just shoot for me, for this blog and because no matter where I go in life, a camera seems to be forever at my side.  An ever-present and loyal companion as I wander around my world.

Anyway – without further adieu I hope you’ll go check out my latest and greatest shots – themed around the details of Spring in two different posts.  Here are the links:
